Undoubtedly every wedding is unique, thus every wedding reception is too. Some couples might prefer a grand dinner followed by an epic dance party, while others may opt for an extended cocktail hour with a lineup of activities. Regardless of the style or vibe you choose, one element remains essential: a well structured wedding reception timeline. While it might not seem romantic, having a detailed “schedule” is key to keeping your celebration running smoothly.
Typically, a standard wedding reception includes a two-hour cocktail reception followed by a 5-hour event featuring dinner and entertainment. However, this framework is highly adaptable. Factors like your personalities as a couple, your priorities and the size of your guest list will all shape how your evening goes. The goal is to design a timeline that fits seamlessly.

Cocktail Reception

First things first, cocktails! Once you’ve completed your formal wedding party and family photos, after your wedding ceremony, allowing everyone to relax and enjoy cocktails, canapes and conversations! Your cocktail reception is a great opportunity to have some candid moments snapped of you and your guests.

Wedding Reception: Hour One

The first hour of your wedding reception typically includes many of the formalities, such as the grand entrance, cake cutting and speeches. We always recommend to do the cake cutting before dinner so our pastry chefs can prepare and include it with the rest of the desserts so your cake is actually eaten and enjoyed by your guests. To keep things running smoothly, allocate specific time limits for each speaker, especially if you have several. This ensures your guests aren’t left waiting too long and allows the kitchen to stay on schedule for meal service.
While the bites served during cocktail hour can help curb hunger, it’s crucial to start the meal service promptly. This keeps your guests engaged, ensures they’re well-fed, and sets the stage for the dance floor to open on time.
Depending on the timing of your wedding reception and time of the year, your photographers may wish to whisk you away for sunset photos during this hour while guests begin eating.

Wedding Reception: Hour Two

As the second hour of your wedding reception arrives, it’s the perfect moment to refresh your look! While dinner is winding down, consider changing into something more comfortable and dance-ready for your first dance.
After your first dance, it’s the ideal time to transition into family dances, such as the father-daughter or mother-son dances. These special moments naturally invite your guests to join you on the dance floor, kicking off an evening of celebration and fun that will have everyone dancing the night away!

Wedding Reception: Hour Three

With your wedding reception in full swing, now is the perfect time to introduce any planned activities or surprises. Whether it’s a photo booth, Cypriot dancers, or interactive games, these additions will keep the energy high and your guests entertained, creating unforgettable moments for everyone.

Wedding Reception: Hour Four

Late-night bites are a perfect way to keep your guests energized and ready to celebrate until curfew! If you’ve planned a sparkler send-off, this is the moment to light them up and create a magical farewell. Don’t forget to savor a “last dance” surrounded by all your guests, ending the night on a memorable high note.
